Vistas: Red Ochre (2009)
Overview
Combining archival photos with new and found footage, this short film presents a personal, impressionistic rendering of what it's like growing up Mi'kmaq in Newfoundland, while living in a culture of denial. Vistas is a series of 13 short films on nationhood from 13 Indigenous filmmakers from Halifax to Vancouver. It was a collaborative project between the NFB and APTN to bring Indigenous perspectives and stories to an international audience.

The village of Tizi N'Oucheg has undergone a transformation thanks to Rachid Mandili, who is well-aware that the development of his village depends on access to clean water and on his strong leadership of this project. Mandili rallies all the villagers together and calls upon the knowledge of French and Moroccan scientists to tap water sources, to purify, and reuse waste water for irrigation. The documentary highlights the Berbers' community ties and ingenuity in their dream of independently managing their village water resources. An insight to Don Aronow - King of Powerboats. Don Aronow born in 1927 in Brooklyn New York, left New Jersey in 1961 to relocate in Miami. From being a huge success in the construction industry, he went on the being a legend as a powerboat designer and racer. Of the World's most recognized racing boat companies, Don Aronow established five; Donzi, Formula, Magnum, Cigarette and US Racing Team. As the US and World Powerboat Champion several times over, his friends, clients, business partners, enemies and competitors were many. Designing and manufacturing powerboats for Presidents, Princes and the privileged, Aronow gained popularity with women and indeed their husbands. As businessman, Aronow applied a no questions asked policy. If the money was there, a boat would be supplied, "I don't care who you are but I will give you the boat if you have enough cash to pay", was a term used by Aronow. Allegedly Aronow, did business on both sides of the law.
